Why go
Gramado and neighbouring Canela are Brazil's most popular mountain destination. The itinerary mixes food, theme parks, nature and a small-town atmosphere, with German- and Italian-inspired buildings.
When to go
Winter (June to August) is properly cold, with fireplaces and fondue. From late October to January the Natal Luz Christmas festival takes place and the town gets busy.
How long to stay
3 to 4 days are enough for Gramado and Canela.
Getting there
The most used airport is Porto Alegre (POA), about 115 km from Gramado, just over two hours by road.
