For a first cruise, choose a short itinerary of three to seven nights, pick the cabin according to how much time you will spend in it and check what the fare includes: usually accommodation, meals and entertainment, but not drinks or excursions.
A cruise ship is a hotel, restaurant, theatre and means of transport at the same time. For first-timers, these are the choices that matter most.
Start with a short itinerary
Three to seven nights are enough to get to know life on board. Mini-cruises in the Brazilian season, departing from ports such as Santos and Rio de Janeiro, are a good way to start.
Choose the cabin by use, not just by price
- Inside: no window, the most economical.
- Ocean view: window with a sea view.
- Balcony: private outdoor area.
- Suite: more space and extra services.
Cabins in the middle of the ship and on lower decks move less.
What is usually included
Accommodation, meals in the main restaurants and buffet, shows, pools and activities.
What usually costs extra
Drinks, shore excursions, speciality restaurants, spa, internet, port fees and service charges.
Tip
Compare the total price per person, with fees and drinks package, not just the cabin price.
